Helminen Wins 2010 Tapemark Title

Ryan Helminen of SentryWorld Golf Course (WI) won his first Tapemark Charity Pro-Am title, shooting 69-65-70-204 (-9) to win by one stroke over David Morgan (Rochester), Joe O’Brien (Minneapolis) and Mario Tiziani (Windsong Farm).
In the team competition, professional Aaron McClay’s team of Steensland, Skarda and Johnson took the 2010 title by shooting -63. Ensrud, Klein, Bienash and Passe took second at -54, while Snyder, Grove, LeRoy and Schouweiler took third at -50.

Tom Mogren admits that when he first signed on to play in the Tapemark Charity Pro-Am, he was still new to the game of golf. Having only played about five years, the Tapemark was Tom’s first major golf tournament.
“I was nervous, playing with some many well-respected golfers and having so many people watch me,” he says, “but it ended up being a really fun experience.”

At times it feels as though if you’ve played in one charity golf event, you’ve played in a million. The routine is typically the same, with the charity acting as the one variable.  Don’t get me wrong, for the charity events that actually return money to the non-profits there is tremendous upside. However, from a participant perspective the tournaments can often blend together with little differentiation.

Swedberg’s Team Catches Fire, Grabs Title

Brett Swedberg’s (Alexandria CC) foursome took home the team championship at the 2009 Tapemark, rolling up an amazing 73-under par Two Best Ball total over 54 holes. The team got out of the gate fast, posting a -23 score Friday. They came back with the low round of the day Saturday (-25) and matched that total again Sunday. Ryan Steensland (Hazeltine CC), Bob Neitzke (St. Cloud CC) and Greg Wittnebel (Unattached) were all steady contributors; Steensland (handicap 3) went 75-72-74, Neitzke (10) 87-83-83 and Wittnebel (29) 90-100-95.
